Today is the 5th Sunday of Lent. This will be followed by 'Passion Sunday,' (Palm Sunday) and finally 'the Holy Week' that will reach its peak on 'Easter Sunday.' The central theme of today’s Scripture Readings is the resurrection and the life. The three readings of today fit beautifully together as they tell us of death yielding to a new way of life.

The readings for the 4th Sunday of Lent Year A are about sight and blindness. The first reading is the story of the choosing of David as God’s anointed one. There is much to learn today from our first reading.

Our Bishop Callahan has asked me to share with you about the decree pertaining to St. Patrick’s Day, Fri, Mar 17.

“The disciplinary practice of abstaining from meat on the Fridays in the Lent is an important dimension of the penitential nature of the season. This year, the feast of St. Patrick, Fri, Mar 17, falls on Friday in Lent. Given the many celebrations that occurs on this day in accord with the norm of law, I here with grant to all Catholics of the Diocese of La Crosse as well as all present here that day, a dispensation from abstinence from meat and meat products. I encourage all who make use of this dispensation to engage in another sacrificial or Charitable act that day”. - by Most Reverend Willian Patrick Callahan. Still if we want, we can be abstaining from meat on that day. The point here is that a special provision is available on that Friday.

Good morning to you all! Our Immaculate Parish PCCW will host their Lenten soup on coming Tuesdays. It begins after the 4:30pm Mass in the Hansen Hall. You are most welcome.

On the second Sunday of Lent, the Gospel Reading speaks about Transfiguration of Jesus. Before going to explain the meaning of transfiguration of the Lord, we need to understand the background of it. Jesus told his disciples clearly exactly what being Messiah was going to mean for him.

I appreciate all the members of St. Lawrence PCCW and K/C for providing delicious breakfast on Last Sunday after the Mass. Now the Lent is upon us. There are a few opportunities being offered at our parishes for communal enrichment. Stations of the Cross will be offered at Immaculate Conception, Fountain City on Fridays at 6:00pm. Confession is available during Stations of the Cross. Also, on Tuesdays there will be an additional Mass at 4:30pm and followed by soup in the Hansen Hall, Fountain city. There will be a Healing Mass and anointing on Sat, Mar 11 at Boniface, Waumandee. This year, the Triduum will be at Boniface, Waumandee.

On this first of Sunday of Lent, the Scriptures contrast two responses to temptation. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, chose their own inclinations to the will of God. Jesus, on the contrary resisted temptation. Let us see how Jesus responded to the temptations.

Good morning to you all. The liturgy of word of God calls us to be holy and to love our enemies. In today’s first reading from Leviticus, we are told to “Be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy.” Our God is not God of punishment. He does not rejoice in the destruction of a sinner but longs for repentance. St. Paul, in addressing the disputes and rivalries among the Christians of Corinth in the second reading today, exhorted them that they are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in them.

The Babylonian law is that “an eye for an eye” or tooth for tooth. It seems to be a totally barbaric practice in the first sight. Actually, it was meant to help the people to put some limit towards their defeated enemies. It became known as the Law of Retaliation and puts limits on the level of revenge that could be taken for an injury people. Basing on this law of Retaliation, Jesus provides new instructions in today’s Gospel. When someone strikes you, turn your cheek. If someone goes to law over your tunic, give them your cloak, also. Go two miles when pressed for one. Love you enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Good morning to you all. On this sixth Sunday of the ordinary time, the readings focus on the law and commandments.

In today’s first reading, God presents us with two options, “life and death.” In other words, He gives us the freedom to choose. God created us out of his love. To guide us in life, he gave us his Law. Also, he gives us the freedom of choice. In order to make decision and choice in life, he also gave us reason to guide us. Hence, God makes it clear that whatever choice we make in life has its consequences. If we choose to obey his laws, we shall be happy. However, if we make the wrong choice, we shall also reap its fruit. In the second reading, Paul refers to the law of Christ as wisdom. In other words, to obey the commands of Christ is the wisest thing to do. Hence, it is a mark of wisdom to live by the Law of Christ.

First of all, sincerely I thank and appreciate St. Boniface’s PCCW Ladies for arranging soup and Card game on last Saturday night after the Mass. There was a lot of fun. Now I am very happy to inform you that there is going to be a Pancake Breakfast in new Rippley’s Social Hall, on Feb 4th from 8:00am to 10:30am at Waumandee. As usually, there is also going to be a Social with Donuts and Coffee at Immaculate conception, Hansen Hall, at Fountain City after this Sunday Mass. You are most welcome for these social events.

Good morning. Hope, everyone is keeping well. On this fourth Sunday of ordinary time, the readings remind us that God delights in the humbleness. He looks at the humble and lowly and fills them with his wisdom, virtue and the holiness of Christ.

In the first reading from the book of Zephaniah, God promises to preserve a remnant for Israel. However, one remarkable thing about this promise is that this group would be made up of only humble and lowly people. In our second reading, Paul reminds us that God delights in the humble of heart. Although, He does not discriminate, he often choses the lowly and poor in spirit. So, Paul encourages us not to be ashamed of the Christian community because of its composition of members of little human wisdom, intelligence, power and material wealth.

First of all, I thank sincerely all those who helped to remove all the decorations in our three Churches. There were many hands. Hearty appreciation to them all. May our mighty God bless you with His choicest blessings.

On this third Sunday, the Scripture readings teach us that Christ has brought us from the darkness of sin into the Light of God by calling us to repentance and the acceptance of God’s rule over us.

Again, I appreciate and thank all the members of Social Hall Committee, other Pastoral & Finance Council members, St. Boniface PCCW Ladies, Knights of Columbus, Altar Servers, St. Boniface School Teachers & Students and other Volunteers for your great support, hard work and generous commitment when our beloved Bishop Callahan came to bless our Rippley Social Hall. It was a great faith-experiencing day in the history of St. Boniface Church at Waumandee. The faithful participation of all Faithful was greatly appreciated by our Bishop.

Today we celebrate the solemnity of Epiphany, and in a most special way the day of the three kings who brought Jesus very costly and symbolic gifts of gold, mire, and frankincense. The term Epiphany is of Greek origin, epiphaninen. It is a verb which means “to reveal,” or “to manifest.”. "Epiphany" refers to God’s Self-revelation as well as to the revelation of Jesus as His Son to all mankind.
