The Transfiguration

02-25-2024Weekly ReflectionFr. Aruldoss

Dear People of God,

God morning to you all. I wish and pray that our mighty God may bless you and your family members with His forgiveness, peace, joy, good heath and prosperity in this graceful season of Lent. Today we celebrate the second Sunday of Lent. The running theme of today’s readings is the transfiguration of our Jesus. In the first reading, we see Abraham’s willingness to offer his beloved son, Isaac, as a sacrifice in an extraordinary test of faith. Abraham’s obedience, although seemingly extreme, demonstrates the transformative nature of faith.

Our second reading is very encouraging because it is full of hope. “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?” (Rom 8:31). God is ready to do anything good to save us. All that we need to do is to continue to listen to Christ attentively. God is ready to make sure that we get to our destination this season, because Christ is with us on our journey.

The Gospel reading of today presents the Transfiguration, where Jesus, with Peter, James, and John, shines with divine glory on a mountain. Witnessed by Elijah and Moses, this event underscores Jesus' messianic identity, confirmed by a heavenly voice proclaiming Him as the beloved Son. This episode not only highlights Jesus' divine authority but also foreshadows His resurrection, offering a profound insight into His role as the life-giver. The disciples’ initial fear and confusion transformed into a profound affirmation of Jesus as the beloved Son of God.

The season of Lent is given to the Church to help us to prepare us prepare for the celebration of Easter. For three apostles, The Transfiguration of Jesus was the foretaste of His glorious Resurrection. It is also a foreshadowing of the glory that will be ours in Jesus Christ in the resection of the dead. For this, the only thing that God demands from us is: “Listen to him!” If we listen to Christ, we shall be successful in our journey with him this season. We need to cultivate a posture of openness and readiness to God's voice in our daily lives.

Have a Happy and Blessed Sunday!
