Dear People of God,
Good morning to you all. I am very happy to announce to you that The Inspired by the Spirit campaign of our tri-parishes has reached the Target now. It is all because of your Extra-ordinary Sacrifice, Commitment and Prayers. My gratitude to all those who have made a pledge. Please do remember that if we exceed the goals, our parishes will receive 80% of the money back towards our Parish Projects. Pledges may be paid over a five-year period.
On this 13th Sunday, the readings call us to welcome Christ in others and they also encourage us to be sensitive to the need of one another in order to make a positive difference in their lives.
In the first reading of this Sunday, the generosity of the Shunem couple towards Elisha brought them the blessing and joy of their life. They were sensitive to the plight and immediate need of the man of God. Through their act of generosity, hospitality and sensitivity, everything turned around for their good. Their desire of the ages was fulfilled. On the other hand, Elisha was equally concerned and sensitive to the needs of this Shunem couple. So, he prayed for them, and blessed them through his prophetic ministry. Thus, his presence was indeed a blessing to this house, rather than a burden.
In today’s gospel, Jesus calls His disciples to love Him above all, indicating the depth of devotion and allegiance required in discipleship. Then Jesus instructs His disciples to take up their cross and follow Him, signifying the willingness to bear the burdens and endure hardships that come with following Christ. Jesus also encourages His disciples to show hospitality and receive others in His name, emphasizing the importance of caring for and supporting fellow believers and those who proclaim the message of the Gospel. Jesus assures His disciples that even the smallest acts of kindness and service done in His name will not go unnoticed by God, promising a reward and recognition in the kingdom of heaven.
Finally, let us ask ourselves these important questions. Is our presence a source of blessing to the people we meet? Does it really make any difference? What good do I bring to the life of others? Let’s us try to recognize Jesus by helping others when they are in the needs.
Yours in Jesus Christ,
Fr. Doss
