Dear People of God,

We continue to reflect upon the meaning of Christian discipleship in the context of the Kingdom of God in this 26th Ordinary Sunday. The dominant theme of today's Scripture Readings is to lead a virtuous life by being obedient to the will of God.

In today’s First Reading, Prophet Ezekiel exhorts the people of Israel to renounce their wicked ways and to embrace the life-giving grace of God. Conversion is a vital option and a personal challenge. There is only one way to life - by living a virtuous life here and now. God does not want the death of a sinner, but that he may live.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Christ,

What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.” (Mt 20:16)

As Christians with feelings and emotions, we always want to be just and sincere in our dealings with others especially with those whom we serve and those who serve us in different ways. We may feel that in today’s parable, Jesus was an unjust man, who had no compassion towards the ones who worked the whole day. No, our God is God and has his own ways and His own thoughts. God loves us eternally and is always willing to forgive us and to show us mercy.

I wish you all a bilateral Labor Day (7th Sept), Feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (8th Sept) and the Most Holy Name of Mary (12th Sept). I prayed for you all specially during these days.

Last Sunday, the liturgy of the word of God reminded us of the importance of reconciliation through fraternal dialogue and mutual love. In this 24th Sunday, it invites us to reflect on forgiveness. It is a very important element of reconciliation. It is the central message of today’s first and gospel readings.

Dear People Of God,

In this twenty third Sunday of ordinary time, the liturgy of word of God reminds us of our responsibility towards one another. Most importantly, it reminds us that dialogue and mutual love is the best method of to promote reconciliation.

In the first reading, God reminds us through Prophet Ezekiel, that we have a responsibility towards one another. This is especially, with regards to counseling and warning others of the consequences of their actions in order to save them. It takes love to warn, counsel or advice someone. So, we are to do this with love. It is our duty to speak out, counsel, and even warn our brothers and sisters, children, friends and relatives when they are missing their path.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of my three parishes,

I am very glad to meet you again through this message.

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me” (Mt 16:24).

The liturgy of word of God in this 22nd Sunday encourages us to overcome all our obstacles in order to offer ourselves completely to Christ. Hence, all the readings lean towards total submission and conformity to Christ.

Dear People of God,

“And so, I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” (Mt 16:18-19)
In today’s Gospel we read, Jesus gives the keys to the kingdom of heaven to Peter one of His Apostles. What moves Jesus to give keys to this disciple? We already know Peter as someone who is rather quick and rash in his judgement.

Dear People of God,

God’s mercy is for all. God’s mercy to entire humanity without borders is one of the themes running through all three readings this Sunday. It simply means that every one of us has equal opportunity of the mercy of God if we respond accordingly to His invitation. Therefore, all the readings of this Sunday present to us a God whose mercy is not the sole or exclusive right of any individual or particular group.

The Liturgy of the word of God gives us a wonderful message. We fear in our lives about some thing especially in this pandemic time. In fear we forget who we are, we lose contact with our source of strength and with that which sustains us. May our Jesus Christ always dispel our fears with a touch of His hands and strengthen always our little faith.

In the readings of Eighteenth Sunday, we meet both physical and spiritual hunger. For sure we must eat physical food to go on living. Of course, We need to eat and cannot live just on spiritual longings. On the other hand, many people get so caught up in their physical desires and needs that they effectively block spiritual hunger for long periods of time in their lives. Some people would even claim never to have had spiritual hunger.

Last two weeks, we have been hearing parables about the kingdom of heaven. Today’s Gospel also speaks about the Kingdom of Heaven. It is like a Treasure buried in the field, like a merchant searching Pearls and like a Net thrown into sea, which collects fish of every kind.

Dear people of God,

In today’s gospel, Jesus gives us three parables; the parable of Weeds, the parable of Mustard seed and the parable of Yeast. All three parables are about the kingdom of God. Here I would like to write about the parable of Weeds alone.

There were people in Our Lord’s time who wanted him to separate the bad from the good as well. Among them were people who claimed the moral high ground, the Pharisees whose name means “the separated ones.” Our Lord didn’t do. He had all sorts of people around him, a rainbow coalition of people, the learned, the ignorant, the good-living, the bad living, tax-collectors, prostitutes, the lot. Why doesn’t he weed them out?

I thank all for your warm welcome with your words and especially with your smiles. I am very happy to come in contact with all through this my first bulletin writing.

In the fifteenth week to Ordinary Sunday, Jesus gives us the parable of a sower, sowing seeds and an explanation, which comes from Saint Matthew. There are people who don’t understand the word of the kingdom and the evil comes and steals away what was sown in the heart. The second group are those who hear the word and receive it immediately with joy but when difficulties come, these peopleimmediately fall away.

I am happy to introduce myself. I am Fr. Doss from the Diocese of Vellore, Tamil Nadu, South India. I was ordained April 25, 2007. I served happily as a Pastor in two remote villages for almost 11 years. From an unknown village of Tamil Nadu, God has brought me here to the Diocese of La Crosse to have a different pastoral experience. I was at Wisconsin Rapids for three months. I was at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls for seven months and now I have been sent here to render my services to you.

A big thanks to all of you especially Deacon and ladies who organized the drive up farewell for me on Sunday. In this uncertain times, I really appreciate all of you who drove to my rectory to say goodbye to me, and our three parish Knights of Columbus members, PCCW members and our parishioners who wished me with beautiful greeting cards, gifts and treats, thank you so much for your love and kind words. I will keep you all in prayers.
