Dear People of God,

Sincere thanks to all those attended the receptions for Inspired by the Spirit Capital Campaign from Waumandee and Alma. There is going to be another reception for the people of St. Lawrence, Alma And also, there is going to be first reception for the people of Immaculate Conception, Fountain city after this Sunday Mass. Please do come to know more about the diocesan wide campaign.

The readings for the 3rd Sunday in Easter encourage us to truly walk the path of discipleship. In the first reading Peter boldly proclaims the Good News. The psalm reminds us that God will guide us along the path of life. And in the gospel, two disciples encounter the risen Jesus on the road to Emmaus. They heard other people speaking about the resurrected Christ and yet they decided to leave Jerusalem. How did they eventually come to faith? First, they heard the scriptures explained to them, and then they came to know Jesus in the breaking of the bread. It is exactly what we do in Mass. We hear the scriptures proclaimed and have them explained to us in the Liturgy of the Word, and then we ourselves come to know Jesus in the breaking of the bread in the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

This Emmaus story is a living parable for Christian discipleship. It suggests that if we travel life’s journey in company with others, sharing our faith and doubts with them, Christ will be walking beside us, opening our minds to his saving truth. Just as he gave understanding to the two on the road to Emmaus, so he does for all who take time to listen to him. His promise remains, “I am with you, always!”

Spiritually, we are all on pilgrimage of faith. We may be perplexed by some of the things that happen to us, maybe the loss of a job, failures, even the collapse of a relationship or being let down by friends. When so much of the outlook seems gloomy, we may feel as helpless and downcast as those two disciples on the road. Like Emmaus disciples, we need the light that Christ offers. When we cannot make sense of things, we need to search the Scriptures together and enjoy his company in the breaking of bread.

The Emmaus story shows us that our God will not abandon us when we are in trouble. The core message is that the followers of Jesus are to maintain contact with their Risen Lord through prayer, the Eucharist and reading of the Bible. Have a Happy Sunday!

God bless You!
