Religious Education – Confirmation

07-30-2017Weekly ReflectionAmanda Burrow, Coordinator of Religious Education

Greetings Confirmation Students, Parents and Parishioners,

Is it almost August? How many parents and students are thinking about the return of school? The fall season also brings Confirmation to two groups of students. We have students preparing for Confirmation in October and students who will be at the beginning of their journey towards to the sacrament of Confirmation. We pray for our students and Catechists to share and learn about the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit

  1. The gift of Wisdom
  2. The gift of Understanding
  3. The gift of right judgment/counsel
  4. The gift of courage
  5. The gift of knowledge
  6. The gift of piety
  7. The gift of wonder and awe

"From this fact, Confirmation brings and increase and deepening of baptismal grace: it roots us more deeply in the divine filiations which makes us cry, "Abba! Father! , it unites us more firmly to Christ, it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us, it renders our bond with the Church more perfect, it gives us special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross" (CCC, 1303).

By understanding the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit we began to understand the effects of Confirmation and its importance in the lives of our students and family members. Please take time to examine these gifts and pray for our students in this upcoming season.
