A Mystery to Ponder

08-09-2015Weekly ReflectionFr. Brian Jazdzewski

Devotion to the Blessed Mother will help understand the fourth Glorious mystery: the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. This mystery allows us to ponder the magnitude of spiritual favors our Lady received through the very end of her life. We profess, of course, that when her earthly life was finished, she was assumed body and soul into heaven. That explains why there is no tomb of Saint Mary to be venerated. That also explains the hope we all have to be united with her son forever in eternity.

We, of course, know that we celebrate the Assumption annually on 15 August; typically a Holy Day of Obligation. This year, 2015, the obligation is lifted because 15 August is a Saturday. That being said, however, a Mass will be offered on the morning of 15 August in the building in our cluster named in her honor, St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in Fountain City. Whatever we do to honor her, we in turn honor her son. Perhaps you will consider something special for Mary on Saturday like attending Mass, offering a Rosary, placing an image of her in a prominent place in your home for the day, or whatever the Holy Spirit prompts you to do in honor of her. May our Blessed Mother’s special intercession aid us “now and at the hour of our death.”
